ARTE TESSILE E RICICLO: QUANDO GLI SCARTI DIVENTANO MATERIALI ARTISTICI
Il rispetto e la tutela dell'ambiente e, in particolare, la gestione consapevole dei rifiuti sono temi per me di enorme importanza; per questo ho trovato la mia dimensione artistica nell’arte sostenibile, in particolare nella upcycling textile e fiber art.
Raccolgo e rielaboro oggetti che intraprenderebbero altrimenti la strada per la discarica, facendo loro riconquistare valore e trasformandoli in strumento artistico.
Gli scarti vengono liberati dal loro destino di prodotti inutili e irrecuperabili restituendo loro una nuova vita e un rinnovato significato anche simbolico.
Nei miei lavori utilizzo materiali di scarto, destinati ad essere gettati, per creare pannelli artistici da arredamento.
Si tratta di dare un ruolo e un significato diverso alle cose che ci circondano valorizzandole e rendendole interessanti anche a livello estetico ed emotivo.
Creo arte con ciò che altri considerano rifiuti.
Nelle mie opere c'è un forte richiamo alla tradizione degli antichi pionieri americani che riciclavano i vecchi vestiti per creare i famosi quilt, spesso vere e proprie opere d'arte.
Anche per loro vigeva il concetto di dare nuova vita agli scarti.
All'inizio della mia produzione artistica, mi ponevo come artista tessile pura, acquistando tessuti per ogni progetto.
In seguito mi sono domandata perché acquistare tessuti, quando ce ne sono così tanti da riutilizzare e che finiscono in discarica?
E così ho incominciato a riciclare non solo tessuti, ma anche altri materiali.
Oggi lavoro con diversi materiali ritenuti inutilizzabili, indesiderati o rotti.
Raccolgo materie riciclate, quali tessuti di scarto, fogli da imballaggio, polietilene e polipropilene, incarti per dolci, sacchetti di plastica, bottiglie di plastica, buste del caffè e vari altri materiali di recupero che permettono di essere cuciti.
I materiali che raccolgo vengono puliti, spesso manipolati col calore, colorati, tagliati in sagome e poi cuciti su un supporto tessile per creare pannelli artistici dalle forme astratte.
Oltre al tempo di esecuzione, il mio lavoro richiede molta sperimentazione sulle possibilità creative di utilizzo degli elementi riciclati.
Il mio intento è quello di armonizzare l'estetica col tema della ecologia e della responsabilità sociale.
Tramite le mie opere voglio porre l'attenzione al degrado ambientale e agli eccessivi consumi, in particolare della plastica, della società moderna.
E' importante promuovere l 'ecosostenibilità, non solo per noi che abitiamo il pianeta oggi, ma anche considerando l'eredità che lasciamo alle future generazioni.
TEXTILE ART AND RECYCLING: WHEN WASTE BECOMES ART
Respect and protection of the environment and, in particular, conscious management of waste, are issues of great importance to me; this is why I found my artistic dimension in sustainable art, in particular in upcycling textile and fiber art.
I collect and re-process objects that would otherwise take the road to the landfill, making them regain value and transforming them into an artistic instrument.
Waste is freed from its destiny as a useless product, giving it a new life and a renewed, also symbolic, meaning.
In my works I use waste materials, destined to be thrown, to create art panels.
It is a question of giving a different role and meaning to the things that surround us, enhancing them and making them interesting also on an aesthetic and emotional level.
I create art with what others consider waste.
In my works there is a strong reference to the tradition of the ancient American pioneers who recycled old clothes to create the famous quilts, often real artworks.
For them too, the concept of giving new life to waste was in force.
At the beginning of my artistic production, I was a pure textile artist, buying fabrics for each project.
Later I asked myself why buy fabrics when there are so many to reuse that end up in landfills?
And so I started reusing not only fabrics, but other materials as well.
Today I work with various materials that are deemed unusable, unwanted or broken.
I collect recycled stuff, such as waste fabrics, wrapping sheets, polyethylene and polypropylene, candy wrappers, plastic bags, plastic bottles, coffee bags and other recycled materials that can be sewn.
The materials I gather are cleaned, often manipulated with heat, stained, cut into shapes and then sewn on a textile support to create my abstract artistic panels.
In addition to the execution time, my work requires a lot of experimentation on the creative possibilities of manipulation of the chosen materials.
My intent is to harmonize aesthetics with the theme of ecology and social responsibility.
Through my works I would like to focus on the issue of environmental degradation and excessive consumption, specially of plastic, of our society.
It is important for me to promote eco - sustainability, not only for us who inhabit the planet today, but also considering the legacy we leave to future generations.
